Residential scaffolding is a temporary platform system built around a house so trades can work safely at height. It gives roofers, painters, builders and plasterers a level working deck with guardrails, instead of working off ladders. In New Zealand it must be erected and handed over to AS/NZS 1576 and WorkSafe’s working-at-height guidelines.

Do I Need Scaffolding for Work on My House?
New Zealand has no minimum height that triggers scaffolding. WorkSafe’s August 2026 working-at-height guidelines say any fall risk must be managed, and recommend a physical barrier for any potential fall over 1 metre.
